A Proven Leader for Troy

Elected on a platform to restore Troy’s finances and improve the city’s neighborhoods, Mayor Patrick Madden is an experienced and proven leader committed to building a brighter future for the Collar City. Since assuming office in 2016, Mayor Madden has delivered three consecutive balanced budgets, secured major investments to replace aging water, sewer and transportation infrastructure, and fought to secure funding and essential equipment for Troy’s police and fire departments. Under his leadership, the City of Troy has received nearly $250 million in private and public investment, helping to drive economic development, create local jobs, revitalize Troy’s waterfront, and transform vacant former industrial properties into major hubs of economic activity.
Patrick is the third of six children born to Sophia and John Madden. Born and raised in Troy’s Eastside neighborhood, Patrick now resides just minutes away from his childhood home. Patrick graduated with a B.A. in Philosophy and Political Science from SUNY Albany, and earned his J.D. at Albany Law School.

He has served as a board member for numerous community organizations, including Rensselaer County ARC, the Neighborhood Risk Management Corporation, Joseph’s House and Shelter, Troy Community Land Bank, and the Rensselaer County Ten Year Plan to End Homelessness.

Previously, Patrick served as Executive Director of the Troy Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (TRIP) for 30 years, an organization which provides a full range of pre- and post- purchase education, home buyer assistance programs, community leadership development, real estate development and in managing a portfolio of more than 300 affordable housing units. Under his stewardship, TRIP provided home ownership and financial management counseling to nearly 10,000 individuals, and leveraged over $50 million into Troy’s neighborhoods helping more than 1,000 families to purchase their first home.
